Poson Poya Day Celebration

The month of June holds great significance for Buddhists throughout Sri Lanka as it marks the historic arrival of Buddhism to the island. More than 2,300 years ago, Venerable Mahinda Thero introduced the teachings of the Buddha to Sri Lanka during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa, laying the foundation for a rich spiritual and cultural heritage that continues to guide the nation today.
To commemorate this sacred occasion, thousands of devotees visit temples across the country to participate in religious observances and community activities. Special Buddha Poojas, Dhamma sermons, meditation programs, Sil campaigns, devotional chanting, and almsgiving ceremonies are organized to deepen understanding of the Buddha’s teachings and strengthen spiritual practice. Many temples also conduct educational programs for children and youth, helping to preserve and pass on Buddhist values to future generations.
Throughout the month, temples become centers of devotion and unity, bringing together families, friends, and community members in an atmosphere of peace and reverence. Devotees engage in acts of generosity, compassion, and service, reflecting the core principles of Buddhism. Temple premises are often beautifully decorated with Buddhist flags, lanterns, and traditional ornaments, creating a welcoming environment for all who wish to participate in the celebrations.
Our temple is honored to join this nationwide observance by organizing a series of special religious and cultural events. We warmly invite all devotees, residents, and visitors to participate in these programs and share in the blessings of this sacred occasion. Together, let us commemorate the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka, pay tribute to our invaluable Buddhist heritage, and cultivate peace, harmony, and wisdom within our community and beyond.
