SUMMARY:Katina Pinkama (Katina Ceremony)
DESCRIPTION:The Katina Mangallaya is one of the most revered and meritorious religious ceremonies in Theravada Buddhism. It is held annually following the completion of the three-month rainy season retreat\, known as “Vassana”\, during which Buddhist monks remain in one monastery dedicated to meditation\, study\, and spiritual practice. \nAt the conclusion of this retreat\, lay devotees express their gratitude and respect to the Maha Sangha by offering the “Katina Cheevara (robe)” and other essential requisites. The offering of the Katina robe is a unique privilege that can be performed only once a year and only within the Katina season. Because of its rarity and significance\, it is regarded as one of the highest forms of merit-making in Buddhism. \nThe Katina ceremony is much more than a traditional religious event. It symbolizes the strong bond between the monastic community and lay devotees\, promoting generosity\, unity\, compassion\, and gratitude. Preparations often begin weeks in advance\, with community members coming together to organize religious activities\, decorate the temple premises\, and participate in various acts of service. \nOn the day of the ceremony\, devotees gather in large numbers to take part in religious observances\, including Buddha Poojas\, Dhamma sermons\, meditation programs\, chanting of Pirith\, almsgiving ceremonies\, and the grand Katina robe procession. The atmosphere is filled with devotion and joy as families and community members unite in support of the temple and the preservation of the Buddha’s teachings. \nOur temple is honored to celebrate this sacred occasion and warmly welcomes all devotees to participate in the Katina Mangallaya. Through collective acts of generosity and devotion\, we can strengthen our spiritual lives\, preserve our rich Buddhist heritage\, and share blessings with the entire community. \n“Sabbadānaṃ Dhammadānaṃ Jināti” – The gift of Dhamma surpasses all other gifts.

SUMMARY:Bodhi Puja Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:A wide range of religious\, cultural\, and social welfare activities are organized annually under the guidance of Vattaddara Sri Sumanarama Purana Viharaya for the benefit of the local community. \nEach year\, on the first day of January\, a special Bodhi Puja Ceremony is conducted with the participation of village residents to invoke blessings\, prosperity\, and protection for the New Year. During the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season in April\, the temple organizes a grand Sanghika Dana (almsgiving) for one hundred Buddhist monks. In keeping with traditional New Year customs\, the temple also facilitates the Head Anointing Ceremony (Hisa Thel Gema) at the auspicious time\, bringing the community together in celebration. \nOn the sacred Vesak and Poson Poya festivals\, which are among the most significant occasions in the Buddhist calendar\, the temple organizes a variety of devotional and cultural events\, including magnificent Thorana (pandols)\, Vesak lantern competitions\, Dansal (free alms-giving stalls)\, Bhakthi Gee (devotional songs) programs\, and many other religious activities. In addition\, the Gift of Dhamma is shared through a series of Dhamma sermons and preaching programs\, helping to promote Buddhist teachings and spiritual development within the community. \nThrough these activities\, the temple continues to serve as a center for religious devotion\, cultural preservation\, and community welfare.
