SUMMARY:Bodhi Puja Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:A wide range of religious\, cultural\, and social welfare activities are organized annually under the guidance of Vattaddara Sri Sumanarama Purana Viharaya for the benefit of the local community. \nEach year\, on the first day of January\, a special Bodhi Puja Ceremony is conducted with the participation of village residents to invoke blessings\, prosperity\, and protection for the New Year. During the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season in April\, the temple organizes a grand Sanghika Dana (almsgiving) for one hundred Buddhist monks. In keeping with traditional New Year customs\, the temple also facilitates the Head Anointing Ceremony (Hisa Thel Gema) at the auspicious time\, bringing the community together in celebration. \nOn the sacred Vesak and Poson Poya festivals\, which are among the most significant occasions in the Buddhist calendar\, the temple organizes a variety of devotional and cultural events\, including magnificent Thorana (pandols)\, Vesak lantern competitions\, Dansal (free alms-giving stalls)\, Bhakthi Gee (devotional songs) programs\, and many other religious activities. In addition\, the Gift of Dhamma is shared through a series of Dhamma sermons and preaching programs\, helping to promote Buddhist teachings and spiritual development within the community. \nThrough these activities\, the temple continues to serve as a center for religious devotion\, cultural preservation\, and community welfare.

Many temples also conduct educational programs for children and youth\, helping to preserve and pass on Buddhist values to future generations. \nThroughout the month\, temples become centers of devotion and unity\, bringing together families\, friends\, and community members in an atmosphere of peace and reverence. DESCRIPTION:Every year in the month of May\, Buddhists throughout Sri Lanka and around the world celebrate the sacred festival of Vesak on the Full Moon Poya Day. Vesak commemorates the three most significant events in the life of Lord Buddha: His Birth\, Enlightenment\, and Parinibbāna (Passing Away). \nTo mark this important religious occasion\, devotees engage in various acts of merit and religious observances\, including Bodhi Puja ceremonies\, Sil campaigns\, Dhamma sermons\, devotional singing\, and almsgiving programs. These activities help to strengthen faith and promote the teachings of the Buddha within the community. \nAs part of the annual Vesak celebrations\, our temple undertakes the construction of a large and beautifully designed Vesak Thorana (illuminated pandal) for public display during Vesak Week. The Thorana depicts stories from the Jataka Tales and the life of the Buddha\, conveying valuable moral lessons and Buddhist values to visitors. Thousands of devotees and visitors gather to witness this magnificent display\, which serves as both a cultural attraction and a source of spiritual inspiration. \nThrough these celebrations\, the temple seeks to foster unity\, compassion\, generosity\, and a deeper understanding of the Buddha’s teachings among people of all ages.
